Hatha Yoga Workshop

ABOUT HATHA YOGA

Practice of Yoga is the art and science of creating an intimate union between the mind, body and spirit, so that one can live healthy and in harmony.

Hatha yoga has a lot to offer for beginners and advanced practitioners of all ages. Its intensity can also be modified depending upon the level one wants. Unlike other forms of yoga like Vinyasa or Ashtanga Yoga, Hatha Yoga does not focus on the flow of the movement from one pose to the other. Rather, it focuses on each pose independently. One can do a pose and come out of it and then change to another pose without impacting the overall effect of the practice.

The word “hatha” literally means force, and is derived from Sanskrit words “ha” means sun and “tha” meaning moon. The word yoga is derived from a Sanskrit word “yuj” which means ‘to yoke’ or ‘bind’ and is often interpreted as “union” or a “method of discipline”. Hatha yoga therefore translates to practice that brings union of pairs of opposite.

Hatha Yoga comprises of a set of asanas that are designed to align the body in a certain way that facilitates various energy channels in the body; so that energy can flow freely. It is a powerful tool for self transformation as it eases physical and mental obstacles.

The main principle behind the practice of Hatha Yoga is breathing. Controlling our breath can help improve oxygenation in the body and reduces stress levels. Therefore, this practice encourages us to focus on our breath, maintain steady balance and promotes stillness in mind

Prana is a type of energy in the human body. It means ‘Universal life Force’. Each human being is born with a certain amount of energy which is responsible for the body’s life and maintenance. Over time and usage, this prana diminishes and makes the body weak. Breathing techniques and yogic postures helps in regulating and maintaining this vital form of energy, hence increasing the longevity of life.

Healthy muscles allow us to move freely and keep our body strong. Building muscle strength helps in keeping joints in good shape preventing various ailments like arthritis. Strong muscles also help in maintaining the balance of the body especially during old age.

Introduction to Nonviolent Communication™

With Robert Kržišnik, Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication - cnvc.org
2-day experiential workshop in Amman
-------

ABOUT NVC

Nonviolent Communication™ (NVC) was developed by Marshall Rosenberg and has been spread around the world through the Center for Nonviolent Communication (www.cnvc.org).

NVC is about creating a quality of connection in which everybody’s need matter. NVC is not about being polite and diplomatic, but rather about expressing yourself with full honesty and integrity. NVC doesn’t force our life to be what we think it should be, but rather establishes a full and open flow of presence, aliveness and fullness.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This experiential workshop will give participants an opportunity to understand and practice NVC through demonstrations, role-playing and exercises, so that NVC can get integrated in daily-life situations – in our personal inner life, in families, at work, as well as in building healthy communities.

Participants will practice to:

  • Connect to others with empathy, hearing their needs behind difficult messages

  • Self-express fully, honestly and sincerely without hurting others

  • Live and relate from the space of self-connection

  • Use body awareness for cultivating presence and peace

Moving Spirit Workshop

ABOUT lINA

Lina Nahhas, an Arab-Canadian based in Dubai, was the first in bringing 5Rhythms practice to the Arab world in 2010, and her passion for the practice has led her to Waves level teacher certification by 2014.

“The impact that the 5Rhythms has had in my life, remains magical. There is a richer savouring of the sublime in every thing and every body, through deeper presence. It helps my soul inhabit its freedom and lightness in alignment with body, heart and mind. And in my continuing journey with the 5Rhythms, I wish to offer others an opening to this energy which nourishes true freedom and reclaims our humanity. My favourite quote from my teacher Gabrielle Roth has always been: Do you have the discipline to be a free spirit”

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

On this one-day journey, we will explore meeting ourselves in the dance as Spirit in Motion. We will tap into simply moving into being, allowing our feet to guide us through that ever-continuing flow of life; whilst also embodying our breath to guide us towards simply being the movement

About the 5Rhythms:  “5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice—a practice of being in your body—that ignites creativity, connection, and community.

While a seemingly simple process, the 5Rhythms practice facilitates deep and unending explorations, moving the dancer beyond self-imposed limitations and isolation into new depths of creativity and connection.

Flowing Staccato Chaos Lyrical Stillness®: Each rhythm is interpreted by individuals in a uniquely personal way, opening them to a new sense of freedom and possibility that is both surprising and healing, exhilarating as well as deeply restorative. It is, in essence, “exercise for the right brain.” www.5Rhythms.com

MORE ON THE 5RHYTHMS®:

Created by Gabrielle Roth and practices by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms® is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the movement practice rooted in the principal that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself.  Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action.  Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free.

“The 5Rhythms – Flowing Staccato Chaos Lyrical Stillness® – are states of Being. They are a map to everywhere we want to go, on all planes of consciousness – inner and outer, forward and back, physical, emotional and intellectual. They are markers on the way back to a real self, a vulnerable, wild passionate, instinctive self.” (http://www.5rhythms.com/gabrielle-roths-5rhythms/what-are-the-5rhythms/)

ABOUT JUMANA:

Jumana is a Hatha Yoga Teacher as well as a certified Infant Massage instructor from IAIM "International Association of Infant Massage" of Sweden since 2009, which is an Association that promotes nurturing touch and communication through training, education and research so that parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community.

Out of Jumana's passion for children and her belief in the importance of bonding and interaction between parents and their babies, she's been giving Infant Massage as well as other children related services since 2000.

ABOUT INFANT MASSAGE:

One of the best things you can learn as a new parent is how to give your baby a massage  and find ways to relief your windy, colicky or constipated baby.

Join us to learn with personal, live instructions the correct techniques which are simple to learn yet incredibly powerful, in nurturing and comforting to your baby. Baby Massage stimulates your baby's muscles, improving blood circulation and skin condition, invigorating and cleansing the body. It can relieve the symptoms of colic, gases, constipation and teething, induce sleep, and helps digestion. It boosts the immune system and helps build parents’ and baby’s self-esteem. Baby Massage also provides you with a unique way to spend time and bond with your baby in those precious early days that can start as soon as the first day of birth.

The sequence and technique you will learn perform on your baby have been developed by Vimala McClure at the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).  The IAIM has been teaching instructors and parents the art of infant massage since the early 1980's.  The program is based on a wonderful combination of Swedish and Indian Massage techniques, simple Yoga and basic reflexology.

There are many benefits of Infant Massage, both physical and emotional.  And it is an excellent way for you to get to know your baby. YOU will be the only person to touch your baby. My role is to simply teach and empower you to massage your baby. It is particularly recommended for fathers or partners who are not always the main carer as it has been shown to aid in the bonding process.  Studies carried out at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in London have shown that women with severe postnatal depression bonded to their babies much more quickly if they incorporated Infant Massage into their daily routine.

Infant Massage involves touching, stroking, rubbing, squeezing and tapping, all of which your baby will find extremely relaxing and soothing. The movements are all easy to learn and will be introduced gradually throughout the classes, and during my Infant Massage Courses you will learn to express this in a logical and comprehensive manner.  Infant Massage allows you to focus on all parts of the body and target those areas that may require more attention. For example, tummy massage can relieve constipation and gassy periods, and some particular movements can help ease the symptoms of colic.

All new parents out there will be delighted to hear that Infant Massage induces sleep, making it a perfect nighttime activity if they prefer. Research shows children who receive massage cry 50% less, sleep more soundly, and suffer less anxiety.

It is a wonderful way to increase the developing bond between you. It also allows you to enjoy your baby by learning an alternative way to play with them, which helps with their muscular development at the same time.

ABOUT KIERRA

Kierra Foster-Ba lives in New York City and has been a 5Rhythms Waves Teacher since 2007 & a Tribe Member since 1997. She has studied the 5Rhythms® with Gabrielle Roth, the founder, for 15+ years. Kierra appears in Gabrielle's Power Wave video and in the documentary "Dances of Ecstasy". She also dances with PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) an international organization of artists devoted to using belly dance to promote peace and end suffering.  Kierra has been offering 5Rhythms® classes in New York City since 2008.  She has given classes and workshops in Philadelphia; Washington D.C; Maryland; California; Connecticut; and Brazil.  Kierra is a graduate of Yale University Graduate School and is a veteran New York City educator (20+ years) and has been an adjunct professor of education at the City College of New York.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

We give lip service to standing in our own power…but what does that mean?  One reason we find it hard to define is we rarely do it.  In fact, we spend much of our time trying to avoid our emotions.  In Heartbeat we partner with our emotions, welcoming them, dancing alongside and within them.  We find out what it is they want to tell us and move with and through them (the 5Rhythms).

  1. Flowing is the home rhythm of Fear – Our essential fear alerts and awakes us.

  2. Staccato is the home rhythm of anger – It is clear and concise.

  3. Chaos is the home rhythm of sadness – sadness is the one emotion that is universally disallowed.

  4. Lyrical is home of the rhythm of joy – This rhythm is the letting go of letting go.  .

  5. Stillness is the home rhythm of compassion– This is where we recognize our profound connection with all that is.

“I have always loved HeartBeat workshops because of the way they wrestle loose what we only half allow ourselves to know. I know that I am not alone in this. I struggled for years with a kind of paralysis. I would be so overcome by crippling self-doubt and fear of failure that I found it very hard to be consistent and to be dependable. I would agree to things, but secretly doubt that I could follow through.

One of the key things I learned in HeartBeat was to physicalize what I was experiencing. This helped me to determine which (if any) fears had a basis in reality and which were me rehearsing old distress. The power of movement and guided 5Rhythms® practice helped me shed behaviors including thought patterns which no longer served me, opening a way for more authentic and proactive living.

HeartBeat is an invitation to tap even more deeply into the wisdom of your body.

I hope you will join me!”

Love, light & inspiration,
Kierra

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

When we feel that we cannot cope or manage the demands placed on us by family, our career, life events or our relationships, we experience stress.

Each of us creates our own individual stress response pattern through the quality of our thoughts and beliefs, emotional responses, the way we breathe and the way we move our body. At a certain point, this pattern becomes set and although this response is intended to be initially helpful, much of the time, our personal stress response pattern blocks the natural flow of wellness in the body.

Kundalini Yoga provides a complete system of effective movement for the body. While most forms of exercise reduce stress, Kundalini Yoga is uniquely suited because of its tremendous impact on the glandular and nervous systems.

The unique movements of Kundalini Yoga, set in the sequence of a kriya, help us learn to manage stress by consistently challenging and extending us. Having survived and adapted each movement, we promote a healing response in our bodies, ready to take on the next challenge.  Stress management is an inevitable side effect of this practice.

Kundalini Yoga combines conscious breathing, dynamic movement, sound vibration, inward focus and meditation to stimulate pressure points in the brain and the body.

There are no levels in this school of yoga, advanced practitioners and beginners are welcome - the ultimate goal for all is to evoke balance, build physical vitality and increase consciousness.

Mercy To The Worlds Meditation

ABOUT KHALID

Khalid is a self-employed Energy Therapist, based out of Amman, Jordan. Works with clients in a one-on-one healing setting, as well as offers distance healing sessions to clients outside Amman and regular workshops on self-healing techniques. He has over 9 years of experience in this field and has been reported to greatly improve the conditions of people suffering from a range of physical and emotional problems as well as addictions.

"It is necessary in order to live a pure balanced life and reach physical emotional mental and spiritual harmony to purify and balance our body's energy system."

In his capacity as an Energy Healer, he conduct a weekly meditation called the Mercy to the Worlds, followed by some self-healing visualization workshops.

ABOUT THE MEDITATION

Mercy to the Worlds Meditation is one of the most effective and efficient meditations that has affected many people's lives with stories of personal healing, spiritual uplifting, relationship improvements and inner transformations.

The Meditation is a short guided meditation where we bless the entire earth with loving energy. Simple physical exercises are done before and after the meditation to prepare the body for the downpouring of Divine Healing Energy. After the Meditation, members feel a great sense of inner peace and relaxation.

However, with regular practice members may encounter the following results in their life:

1) Recharged Body and Improved Health

When doing the Mercy to World Meditation, lots of divine energy enters our system which cleanses the dirty, diseased, used up energies and improves health. This shows itself as recharged body.

2) Sense of Peace and Happiness

Once the Hearts Center opens during the meditation, and once the old emotional stuff flushes out of our system, we feel an inner peace within us and we are filled with love and happiness.

3) Better Self Esteem

Mercy to World Meditation helps us remove the old picture of us and create a positive image. With more power, with a cleaner system, more refined emotions and lots of divine energy we can achieve many things in life.

4) More Harmonizing Relationships

By doing Mercy to World Meditation, we will be filled with love; our Heart Center expands, and our Crown Center develops. Once we use the generated energy to bless a person or a place after the meditation, it helps in bringing more harmony, love, and peace for them as well.

5) Sharper and More Intelligent Mind

Once the old emotional thoughts and emotions are cleared from our system, we will have clearer mind and faster decision making.

6) More Good Luck

You have been heard about the famous phrases like “what we sow is what we reap” and “it is in giving that we receive.”

When we bless every person, every being on earth with love and light, peace and joy, hope and faith, we will see that even in difficult situations we will find help, hope, and peace.

7) Improved Intuition

By developing the Crown Center, our intuition will be developed. People often call it direct knowing or inner guidance. Whatever it is called, intuition is a great tool to understand life and live it to the fullest with minimum mistakes.

ABOUT DANIEL:

Daniel is a teacher of Ma Gui Bagua and Qigong. With over a decade of experience, he has studied under a number of teachers in the internal martial arts and medical qigong systems. He has studied Bagua under Sifu Andrea Falk for a number of years in the Ma Gui system, which is known for deep connected circle walking with great health benefits. He has also studied Cheng style Bagua under Sifu Neil Ripski. As with most traditional Chinese systems, there is currently no official certification, which depend more on personalized transmission from teacher to student. Daniel is passionate about spreading the internal arts to help others to feel the amazing health benefits on a physical, mental and emotional level, and to experience the unique martial techniques

ABOUT BAGUA:

Bagua is a traditional Chinese martial art characterized by circling and spiraling movements. As an internal art, Bagua uses methods to focus on awareness of the spirit, the mind and the Qi - the body's energy. Other main internal styles include Tai Chi, Xingyi and Yiquan. In Bagua we utilize a relaxed connection to the ground and whole body power which does not depend on muscular tension. The core of Bagua practice comes from slow circle walking meditation, which improves the health and balance, strengthens the tendons, and promotes the flow of Qi and blood. With internal styles, the health benefits and martial skills go hand in hand, so you will improve in both, whatever your reasons for practicing.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

This workshop will introduce the foundations of Bagua practice.

In order to build internal connections and grounding in the body, we will start with Post-Standing Meditation and then begin to bring in well connected whole body movement. The main focus in Bagua practice is Circle Walking, which builds connected stepping ability, strengthens the tendons in the ankles and knees, and promotes sinking of the Qi. We will also practice some core conditioning methods such as 'Dragon serves Tea' 'Rolling the Ball' and 'Mud Palms', which are also excellent forms of Qigong.

This workshop duration is 2 hours
